Primitivo can trace its lineage from the ancient Phoenicians who settled in the province of Apulia, the heel of Italy’s boot, back in the 18th century. Known as the father of the Zinfandel grape, the name Primitivo translates roughly as “Early One”, and refers to the variety’s early-ripening nature.
Our 2014 Bella Piazza Primitivo is deep purple-ruby in color, with aromas of deep berry. This latest vintage boasts intense dark fruit flavors of black cherry, blackberry & raspberry, with hints of nutmeg and clove. A nice tannic edge adds to the 2014 Primitivo’s food-pairing versatility with richer meats and heartier foods. This wine also pairs well with hard cheeses like manchego, or even a dense dark chocolate.
